ATS Resume Checker: See What the Robot Reads

Drop your resume PDF to see the plain text an applicant tracking system extracts, what breaks it, and which job-ad keywords you are missing.

100% private: your files never leave your browserHow to verify it yourself

In short

To check your resume for ATS, drop your PDF: you see the plain text an applicant tracking system extracts, a score, and the exact problems such as columns, missing headings or unreadable fonts. Paste a job ad to see which keywords you are missing. The file never leaves your device.

Most employers that receive many applications use an applicant tracking system (ATS) such as Workday, Taleo, Greenhouse or Oracle Recruiting. Before a recruiter opens your resume, the system converts the PDF to plain text, splits it into sections and stores your job titles, dates and skills in a database. Recruiters then search that database by keyword. If the conversion goes wrong, your experience can be filed under the wrong heading or not be found at all.

Other resume checkers ask you to upload your resume, create an account or pay to see the results. CareerPDF reads the file inside your browser with the same PDF engine Firefox uses, and shows you the raw text, line by line, the way a simple parser reads it. You see the problem with your own eyes instead of trusting an opaque score.

The checker works with English and Arabic resumes. Arabic text is normalised before matching, so different spellings of the same letter, diacritics and the definite article do not hide a keyword.

How to check your resume for ATS

  1. 1

Step 1: Drop your resume PDF

Choose the exact file you plan to send. The text layer is read on your device, page by page, in a background worker so the page stays responsive.

  2. 2

Step 2: Read the score and the checks

Each check explains what it found: selectable text, unreadable characters, two-column layouts, reading order, contact details, standard headings, length and date formats.

  3. 1-3, 5, 8-3

Step 3: Paste the job description

The matcher extracts the terms the ad repeats and the product names it mentions, then lists the ones your resume already has and the ones it is missing.

  4. 4

Step 4: Fix and check again

Edit the resume in your word processor or in our free builder, export a new PDF and drop it again until the score and the keyword match look right.

Zero-Server

Your resume stays on your device

A resume holds your name, phone number, email, employers and sometimes your address. Uploading it to an unknown website to “check” it is exactly the kind of leak you would avoid with any other personal document. Here the file is opened by JavaScript running in your browser tab, and nothing is sent to a server: not the PDF, not the extracted text and not the job description you paste.

You can verify it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab and run a check. You will see no request carrying your data. The tool also works offline once the page has loaded, because there is nothing to upload to.

What the checker catches

  • Two-column templates: many parsers read straight across the page, so a skills sidebar ends up inside your job titles. The robot view shows the mixed lines.
  • Resumes exported as images or scans, which contain no text at all for an ATS to read.
  • Icon fonts and decorative bullets that turn into unreadable symbols, and Arabic text stored as shaped glyphs that some systems cannot search.
  • Creative headings such as “Where I have been” instead of “Experience”, which stop the ATS from sorting your sections.
  • Missing or misplaced contact details, inconsistent date formats and resumes that are far too short or too long.
  • Keywords from the job ad that you have but did not write, such as the exact name of a tool or certification.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same score a real ATS gives?

No tool can reproduce every commercial system, and none of them publishes a score. This checker tests the things that make parsing fail in practice and shows you the extracted text, so you can judge the result yourself instead of trusting a number.

Is my resume uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is read in your browser with pdf.js, in a background worker on your device. The text and the job description you paste are never sent to a server, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.

Which browsers does the ATS checker work in?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Samsung Internet on desktop, Android and iOS. JavaScript must be enabled, because the analysis is JavaScript running on your device.

Are two-column resumes always rejected?

Not always. Modern parsers handle some layouts well, but many still read across the page and mix the columns. A single column is the safe choice when you do not know which system the employer uses.

Does it work with Arabic resumes?

Yes. Arabic text is normalised (alef forms, taa marbuta, diacritics, the definite article and a light stem) before matching, and the robot view shows Arabic lines in reading order. It also warns when Arabic is stored as shaped glyphs.

Should I copy every missing keyword into my resume?

Only the ones that are true. Add skills and tools you really have, in your summary, skills or achievements. Recruiters read the resume after the ATS, and invented skills are easy to spot in an interview.

Can I check a Word file?

The checker reads PDF files. Export your document to PDF first, which is also the format most portals prefer, then drop it here.
