How to fill in a blank resume template

  1. 1. Choose a design that fits your field

    Serif designs suit law, finance and teaching; clean sans-serif designs suit tech, sales and most office roles. The graduate design puts education first, and the tech design puts skills first.

  2. 2. Replace every bracket

    Each prompt in brackets shows what goes there. Delete the brackets with the prompt, and remove any line you do not need, such as a second job if you are a graduate.

  3. 3. Write results, not duties

    Start each bullet with a verb and end it with a number: an amount, a percentage, a deadline met or a team size. Two or three strong bullets per job beat six weak ones.

  4. 4. Save it as PDF before you send it

    Unless the employer asks for Word, send a PDF. In Word or Google Docs choose Save as PDF, then open the file in our ATS checker to see the text a recruiter’s software reads.
