What employers look for

In civil engineering, your projects are your resume. For each role, state the project type (residential, infrastructure, roads), its approximate value or size, and exactly what you were responsible for: design, site supervision, quantity surveying or planning.

Show that you deliver safely, on time and within budget. Mention schedules met, cost savings, inspections passed and safety records, and name your engineering association membership if your country requires it.

Separate design experience from site experience clearly, because consultants and contractors hire for different strengths. If you worked on government or international-standard projects, say so, and mention the codes you applied (for example ACI or BS) where they matter for the role.

Achievement bullets you can adapt

  • Supervised construction of a JOD 12M residential complex (8 buildings) delivered 3 weeks ahead of schedule.
  • Cut concrete waste by 14% through revised pour planning and supplier coordination.
  • Reviewed 250+ shop drawings and coordinated 6 subcontractors with zero lost-time incidents.
  • Prepared BOQs and cost estimates for 4 tenders, winning 2 worth JOD 9M combined.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Listing projects without values, sizes or your exact role.
  • Forgetting software: AutoCAD, Primavera and Civil 3D are frequent ATS filters.
  • Leaving out safety. Clients care about incident-free sites as much as deadlines.

Frequently asked questions

Should I list every project?

List the most relevant and largest projects for each role. Two to four bullets per job is enough.

Where do I put my engineering association membership?

Next to your degree in the education section, with the membership level and year.

Should I attach a portfolio?

You can add a link to a short portfolio of project photos or drawings, but keep the resume itself text-based for ATS.

Is this template ATS-friendly?

Yes. It is single-column with standard headings and real text.
