What employers look for

Without work experience, everything you did at university counts: graduation projects, internships, part-time jobs, volunteering, competitions and student clubs. Treat each one like a job, with what you did and what came out of it.

Put your education near the top, add your GPA if it is strong, and tailor your skills to the job ad. A focused one-page resume beats a long one full of general statements.

Apply early and widely, and keep one master version of this resume that you adapt for each job ad. Change the title, the summary and the order of your projects so the most relevant ones come first. Small, honest adjustments like these noticeably improve response rates for first jobs.

Achievement bullets you can adapt

  • Graduation project: built a stock-tracking app for a local pharmacy, now used daily by 6 staff.
  • Summer intern at a logistics company: cleaned and analysed 12,000 shipment records in Excel to find delay causes.
  • Organised a university career fair with 35 employers and 900 visitors as head of the student club.
  • Volunteered 120 hours teaching computer basics to adults at a community centre.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Writing “I have no experience” instead of showing projects and activities.
  • Generic objectives such as “seeking a challenging position”. Say what you can offer this employer.
  • Listing secondary-school details once you have a university degree.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include my GPA?

Include it if it is good (for example 3.0/4 or “Very Good” and above). Otherwise leave it out and highlight projects.

What if I have no internships?

Use course projects, freelance work, volunteering, online certifications and personal projects. They all show skills.

Should I write a career objective?

Write a two-sentence summary that names your degree, your strongest skills and the role you want.

Is this template ATS-friendly?

Yes. One column, standard headings and selectable text.
